European Forum Event: Award winning pianist, Christine Stevenson, celebrating UK -Polish Diplomatic Relations with Chopin/Paderewski Recital

The European Forum and His Excellency Professor Arkady Rzegocki, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, invite you to a recital by award winning pianist, Christine Stevenson, celebrating UK -Polish Diplomatic Relations and featuring the works of two eminent Polish composers, Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) and Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860-1941).

A Drinks Reception, hosted by His Excellency Professor Arkady Rzegocki, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, will be held at 6.30pm in the Smoking Room. There is no charge for this event but please RSVP to Louisa Pooley here.

Following the recital there will be a dinner in honour of His Excellency Professor Arkady Rzegocki, if you wish to book for dinner, please advise Louisa Pooley here. The charge for a three course dinner with wine will be £45.00 per person.

Christine Stevenson enjoys a distinguished career as a piano recitalist and concerto soloist, in the UK and internationally. Her concerts continually draw critical acclaim for her virtuosity, musicianship, and the engaging rapport she establishes with audiences of all ages. She is an Artistic Director of the annual Summer School for Pianists at Stowe where she gives masterclasses and recitals, and is on the staff of the Royal College of Music in London.

She writes about piano music on her blog.

Recent seasons’ highlights have included an open-air concert in Suffolk - Chopin in the Park, a recital in London’s Ognisko Polskie celebrating Paderewski and a centenary of Polish Independence, and a concert of music by Chopin at Highclere Castle (television's 'Downton Abbey') marking the end of World War I.

Christine’s recording credits include music by award-winning British composer Thomas Hewitt Jones, as well as the premiere CD recording of Alkan’s Rondo Brillant with members of the London Mozart Players. Her solo recording of Liszt’s 'Années de Pèlerinage - II - Italie' has been critically acclaimed. Winner of the prestigious Dom Polski Chopin competition, Christine’s wide experience includes live and recorded broadcasts for the Australia Broadcasting Corporation and BBC, a period as Musician in Residence at the Chisholm institute, and an Arts Council tour of Northern Australia in collaboration with selected actors, a visual artist and a dancer in multi-arts presentations.

Born in Melbourne, Christine graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with distinction, being twice awarded the Gaitskell prize for the most outstanding student. She studied with pupils of Cortot, of Nadia Boulanger and of Michelangeli, and with the celebrated English pianist, Ronald Smith, also participating in masterclasses given by Sergei Dorensky, Aldo Ciccolini and Vlado Perlemuter.
