Human Ecology and the Youth - Lessons from COP27 and CHOGM 2022 with Youth Environmental Activist Abhiir Bhalla

On Monday, 23rd January the NLC Commonwealth Forum is hosting a reception from 6.30pm to 7.00pm, followed by a discussion (7.00pm - 8.00pm ) to welcome Abhiir Bhalla, a prominent Youth environmentalist, to the UK for a series of Commonwealth Roundtable events. The drinks reception (at £15 per person, payable in advance to the NLC, registration may be made on the NLC website) will be followed by a brief talk, covering:

  • COP 26 (Glasgow, 2021) and most recently COP 27 (Sharm El Sheikh) in November 2022, where he attended the Youth Meeting just prior to the opening of COP 27. 

  • Commonwealth Youth and Peoples Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, in June, during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)

  • Thoughts on India’s succession (from Indonesia) to the G20 Presidency for 2023

Lord Graham Tope CBE will welcome Abhiir and guests.

The evening will be chaired by NLC Commonwealth Forum Vice Chair and Climate Reality Leader Emily Robinson.

An active youth environmentalist at a global level, Abhiir has been working in the field of environmental conservation for over 8 years. Identified by the BBC World News as amongst the foremost youth environmentalists in 2020, Abhiir and his work have been featured prominently in the national and international media.

Sir Richard Gozney: “Nearly 40 Years of helping to persuade Autocrats and Democrats”

The NLC Commonwealth Forum is delighted to announce that Sir Richard Gozney will be speaking on “Nearly 40 Years of helping to persuade Autocrats and Democrats on Monday 22 November 2021, 7 - 8 pm, in the Lady Violet Room, National Liberal Club.

Sir Richard Gozney KCMG CVO KStJ was governor and commander in chief of Bermuda (2007 to 2012) and served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man (May 2016 to August 2021). 

Sir Richard has a distinguished diplomatic career, with postings within the FCO, including Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs

Sir Richard was the former High Commissioner to SwazilandAmbassador to Indonesia and High Commissioner to Nigeria.

 The evening will be chaired by NLC Commonwealth Forum President, Lord David Chidgey.

Following the meeting the Bar and dining room are available (for dinner in the dining room please book directly with the dining room) .

Baroness Parminter on Climate Change and Biodiversity: 2021 a Year of Opportunity

The NLC Commonwealth Forum and European Forum are delighted to announce that the new Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Environment and Climate Change, Baroness Kate Parminter has agreed to give a Zoom talk on the challenges facing the global community on climate change.  

Ahead of the COP26 (The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, in Glasgow, 1 to 12 November 2021) and the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15 in Kunming, China, 11-24 October 2021), which provides the global community with further opportunities to galvanize efforts, at all levels to build a better future in harmony with nature, focusing on the upcoming challenges in ensuring global consensus on carbon reduction goals and biodiversity protection

Baroness Kate Parminter will lead a discussion on what can be achieved, followed by a Question and Answer session.
